The Purpose

Our children today are learning poorly and learning by rote. Our board exams, school exams and large scale achievement surveys promote rote learning by focussing on “HOW MANY children passed” and “HOW MUCH did you score”. They don’t focus on “WHAT did you learn” and “HOW WELL did you learn”.  There is no institution in India that trains for educational assessments and research into science of how children learn.

The Path

In late 19th century, when Jamshedji Tata planned to build a steel mill in India, it is believed that Swami Vivekananda told Tata that there were two parts to the challenge – manufacturing technology and the science of steel. The former could be brought from abroad but the science had to be researched at home.

We build capacity for assessments

We build capacity in government institutions, schools and teachers for developing assessments ‘for’ learning, analysing and using the data rigorously.

We research into science of learning

Our research builds insights into how children learn through intervention impact studies, exploring cognitive and affective learning, and psychometric research.
